Do you want to lead and develop an operation that makes a real difference for children's and students' language, knowledge development, and identity?
The Mother Tongue Unit is part of the Department of Education in Östersund Municipality. We are responsible for mother tongue education and study guidance in municipal and independent preschool classes, primary schools, and adapted primary schools. Today, we support approximately 30 schools and preschools with our approximately 70 employees.
We are now looking for a unit manager with clear and trustworthy leadership who wants to continue developing the operation in close collaboration with schools, principals, and the administration.
Your New Job
As a unit manager, you have overall responsibility for operations, personnel, work environment, and budget. You lead a geographically and organizationally dispersed operation with high competence and great commitment.
You have overall responsibility for the operation and lead the work with the support of the deputy unit manager. The assignment includes, among other things:
- Leading, coordinating, and developing mother tongue education and study guidance
- Ensuring quality, equity, and efficient resource use
- Driving development and change work based on the needs of the operation
- Collaborating with principals and contributing to the schools' systematic quality work
- Representing the operation in cross-administrative contexts

Your Competence
We are looking for someone who has:
- an academic education or experience that the employer assesses as equivalent and adequate for the assignment.
- current and relevant work experience as a manager with personnel responsibility.
- very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish.
- good digital competence.
It is considered meritorious if you also have:
- completed the principal program.
- experience of working within the education sector and issues related to multilingualism and intercultural work.
- experience of leadership, development, and change work.
- experience from municipal or public operations and an understanding of how it is to work in a politically governed organization.
- a B driver's license
